Although the ports of Arica, Patache, Iquique and Mejillones have been closed for damage inspection following the earthquake, and are set to reopen after structural checks have been completed, maritime services provider ISS has issued a statement advising the ports will not reopen until the threat has passed.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a tsunami alert at 12:57 GMT today.

Tocopilla port has already been closed due to adverse weather conditions, with parts of the coast experiencing swells of up to 2.1m.
