China port container volumes up 37.9% in Feb a year on from lockdown

Cargo throughput and container volume at major Chinese ports was up sharply in February a year on from the world’s first Covid-19 lockdowns.

According to the statistic released by China Ports and Harbors Association, container volume at eight major Chinese ports increased 37.2% year-on-year, among which, export container volume increased 37.9%.

The port of Shenzhen posted a growth rate close to 80%; the port of Shanghai and Ningbo-Zhoushan posted a growth rate close to 50%.

In terms of bulk cargoes coal, oil products and metal ore shipments all maintained stable growth in the past month.

Port operation along Yangtze river kept improving. Cargo throughput and container volume at three major Yangtze river ports, Nanjing, Wuhan and Chongqing, up 25.5% and 69.8% respectively comparing to the same period of last year.
