China’s container volume at major ports up 13.3% in mid-May

Container volume at eight major Chinese ports increased 13.3% year-on-year in mid-May.

According to the statistics released by China Ports and Harbors Association, export container volume increased 16.8% while the domestic volume increased 4.5% in mid-May.

Among which, the port of Shenzhen posted a growth rate of over 40% for export container volume while the port of Tianjin posted a growth rate of nearly 60% for domestic container volume.

Cargo throughput at major coastal hub ports increased 5.2% while the international trade cargo throughput increased 6.8%.

Crude oil shipments at major coastal ports increased 8.9%, and port inventory increased 11.8%.

Metal ore shipments at major Chinese ports up 9.8% while port inventories increased 15.6%.

Ports along Yangtze river maintained steady operation for mid-May. The port of Nanjing, Wuhan and Chongqing posted a cargo throughput increase of 9.7% and a container volume growth rate of 21.9%.
