Colombia’s Intertug completes merger

Intertug in Columbia has completed a merger of its operations in the country following approval from the authorities.

In May of this year, International Tug S.A.S. (Intertug) requested from Colombia’s Superintendence of Transportation (Supertransporte) the authorisation to carry out the merger by absorption with the Panamanian companies Panama Tugs S.A., Atlantic & Pacific Supply Services S.A. and Intertug Investments Holding S.A., which are part of the same business group, in order to unify their operations in the country. Intertug received the clearance last month.

Following the merger, the company operates now nearly 40 vessels including tugs and offshore equipment.

"With the authoriation of the merger of Intertug S.A.S. in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the strengthening of the country's maritime and port operations is promoted, since this multinational has positioned itself as a strategic link in support activities for public ports and specialised terminals, which will bring benefits to the port community in general,” said Camilo Pabon Almanza, Colombia Superintendent of Transport.

Early this year Chile-based SAAM acquired a 70% stake in the Colombia company International Tug (Intertug), a towage services company operating in Colombia, Mexico and Central America.

Intertug has more than 25 years’ experience providing harbour towage, offshore and special services in Colombia, Mexico and Central America. Its 25-vessel fleet logs more than 18,000 maneuvers a year, generating around $44m in towage service revenue annually.
