Container volume at major Chinese ports up 4% in late May

Container volume at eight major Chinese ports increased 4% year-on-year in late May.

According to statistics released by China Ports and Harbors Association, export container volume increased 3.9% while the domestic volume increased 4.2%.

Among the ports Tianjin and Ningbo-Zhoushan posted a growth rate of over 20%.

Cargo throughput at major coastal hub ports slightly increased 1.6% year-on-year while the international trade cargo throughput increased 2.4%.

Crude oil shipments at major coastal ports dropped 10.7% year-on-year. Port inventory increased 8.5% year-on-year.

Metal ore shipments at major Chinese ports increased 1.3% while the port inventory increased 8.5%.

Cargo throughput and container volume at the three major Yangtze river ports, Nanjing, Wuhan and Chongqing, increased 20.3% and 10.6% year-on-year, respectively.

In May, the cargo throughput at major coastal Chinese ports up 4.6% year-on-year while the container volume at eight major ports increased 11%.
