Container volume at Yangshan port, Shanghai hit a record high in January, reaching 1.97m teu, an increase of 17.8% year-on-year.

In January, the port handled 704 calls by containerships on international routes, an increase of 11.9% year-on-year, among which the fourth phase automated terminal of Yangshan port handled 234 voyages, a substantial increase of 53.9%, according to the statistics released by Yangshan Port Maritime Bureau.

The number of the vessels calling at Yangshan port has continued growing in recent years, especially for the large size ships. Last year, the port handled 1,394 calls by containerships over 18,000 teu, an increase of 15.6%.

The port aims to achieve a container throughput of 26m teu by 2025.
