DP World Caucedo expansion progressing with new equipment

DP World Caucedo, the largest container terminal in the Dominican Republic, is entering the last phase of its capacity expansion project.

Early last week, three STS jumbo gantry cranes and five RTG mobile cranes, the new equipment arrived at the main port of the Dominican Republic, onboard the ZPMC’s ZHEN HUA 35.

The heavy lift ship Zhen Hua 35 set sail from Shanghai in mid-November to the Caribbean Sea, via the Cape of Good Hope.

The ship sailed at a very slow speed and its itinerary included many days in a "waiting pattern" off the coast of the Dominican Republic, presumably to wait until the last shore work on the expanded DP World Caucedo dock was completed.

The DP World Caucedo expansion project aims to increase the annual capacity of the container terminal to 2.2m teu, up from 1.4m teu, to 2.2m teu. The expansion is scheduled for completion by mid-2020.
