The port exchanged 9,315 containers on a call from Ocean Network Express’ ONE Trust when it called at Southampton from Pusan, South Korea. The operation involved 5,824 discharges, 3,473 loads and 18 re-stows, and was completed in 86 hours.

The new record marks a 13% increase over the terminal’s previous high of 8,213 moves earned on a call by MOL Truth two years ago, said DP World.

Steve McCrindle, Port Operations Director at Southampton, said: “We are committed to consolidating Southampton’s position as the most productive port in the UK, turning vessels around faster than any of our competitors. Our performance on ONE Trust was made possible by our new ten crane operating model, which enables us to concentrate more cranes on a vessel while continuing to service other customers at the same time, thereby boosting our productivity.”

“After the disruption of recent years, shipping lines and cargo owners are looking for capacity, reliability and growth opportunities. We are providing it, enabling customers to move goods smoothly and efficiently in and out of the UK and across their supply chains.”

DP world reported a 55% drop in carbon emission at Southampton in 2022 and took delivery of 11 hybrid straddle carriers for the terminal early last year.

Southampton lost its position as the UK’s second-largest container terminal to fellow DP World terminal London Gateway last year, as volumes at London Gateway rose and volumes at Southampton fell slightly.
