JM Baxi inaugurates Tuticorin Container Terminal

J M Baxi Ports & Logistics has inaugurated and started operations at the Tuticorin Container Terminal located at the V.O. Chidambaranar Port on the southeast coast of India.

Positioned strategically in the Gulf of Mannar has the potential to link India with Europe, the USA, and other global markets.

The terminal features a 370-metre quay, a 14.2-metre-draught, and advanced cargo handling equipment, including three post-Panamax cranes and nine electric rubber-tyred gantry cranes, with a handling capacity of 600,000 teu annually.

The Rio Grande Express a Hong Kong-flagged vessel run by Hapag Lloyd, made its maiden call at the terminal as part of the inaugural operations. .

Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, inaugurated the new container terminal, which is the port’s third such terminal.

In a video message, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed Tuticorin International Container Terminal as the new star of India’s marine infrastructure. This terminal will play a crucial role in enhancing the capacity of the port and is expected to reduce logistics costs at the port, he said.
