China’s southeast Jiangxi province’s largest container terminal Jiujiang Hongguang international port has officially commenced operations.

The first phase project includes four 5,000 tonnes-class berths with a designed annual handling capacity of 650,000 teu, connecting Jiangxi with Japan and Southeast Asia countries.

“We will accelerate the construction of supporting facilities for the terminal and enlarge the application of 5G plus AR technologies to improve the integrated operation capability of the port,” said Li Guofeng, chairman of Jiangxi Port Group.

Jiujiang Hongguang international terminal project has been divided into three phases, planning to build over twenty 5,000 tonnes class berths in all. The second phase and the third phase projects are scheduled for delivery in 2024.

During the first three quarters, Jiujiang port posted a cargo throughput of 79.75m tons, an increase of 0.3% year-on-year, and a container volume of 426,000 teu, an increase of 17% over the same period in 2019.
