Maersk to get VIP treatment at Jebel Ali in DP World partnership

The companies said new quayside processes at the terminal will speed up turnaround times, leading to lower bunker consumption and reduced emissions.

As well as berthing priority and quayside efficiency development, the partnership covers visibility tools to allow Maerk customers access to real time data about their shipments as relayed by DP World. Maersk Accelerate and Maersk Flex Hub will both be deployed at Jebel Ali, which focus on fat-tracking cargoes and cargo storage, respectively.

“The Intra Terminal Vehicles (ITVs) at Jebel Ali Port used at the Terminal where Maersk vessels berth will be converted from diesel ones to electric ones leading to a reduction of around 80% carbon footprint from these vehicles alone,” said DP World.

Maersk has a 2040 net-zero emissions ambition, while DP World has a carbon neutral commitment by 2040 and net zero commitment for 2050. The latest tie-up follows a strategic partnership between DP World and the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping, an independent not-for-profit working on decarbonisation in the maritime industry.
