The two Southern Californian ports have against announced another week’s delay in introduction of the container dwell fee announced in late October last year. The two ports have seen a combined drop of 45%  in aging cargo in ports since 25 October 2021.

As result the ports would be holding off $100 per container, per day dwell fee until at least 17 January, the ninth week in a row that its introduction has been postponed.

Meanwhile the queues of ships to dock at LA/LB terminals remain as long as ever.

As of Monday, 3 January, some 105 containerships were backed-up to enter the two ports according to the Marine Exchange of Southern California. This number includes 12 containerships anchored or loitering within 40 miles of LA and LB, plus 83 containerships slow steaming or loitering outside the Safety and Air Quality Area (SAQA).
