Rio Tinto and Ningbo-Zhoushan port expand iron ore cooperation

Global mining group Rio Tinto and China’s Ningbo-Zhoushan Port have entered into cooperation framework agreement to strengthen collaboration on bulk commodities.

“Rio Tinto and Ningbo-Zhoushan port have established partner relationship for a long time and we have achieved remarkable results. We will strengthen our communication and put forward the progress of collaborated projects,” said Alfredo Barrios, ceo of Rio Tinto.

Ningbo-Zhoushan port and Rio Tinto are expecting to expand our cooperation on iron ore and low-carbon sectors, said Tao Chengbo, general manager of Ningbo-Zhoushan port. 

Ningbo-Zhoushan port is the top specialised iron ore transshipment port in China and was the first to construct the 100,000 tonnes-class and 200,000 tonnes-class terminals for iron ore transporation. In 2022 import iron ore loading and uploading volume at Ningbo-Zhoushan port was 154m tons, accounting for 13.9% of national iron ore imported volume. 

Rio Tinto also reached agreements with Aluminum Corporation of China and China Mineral Resources Group this week seeking for more green products development and innovations with Chinese mine industry leaders.
