Rollover rates at container ports and for lines continued to worsen in April this year according to project44.

As congestion and delays continue to plague ports and container shipping project44 said some major ports and carriers were posting rollover rates above 50% in April.

The average rollover rates for all ports and lines surveyed stood at 39%.

Among the ports with over 50% rollover rates were Port Klang with 64%, Rotterdam at 54%, and Piraeus at 59% showing what project44 saying this showed “endemic congestion”.

While the world’s two largest container ports – Shanghai and Singapore – stood at 39% and 43% respectively.

On the container line side of the equation Hapag-Lloyd, CMA CGM, and Ocean Network Express (ONE) all showed worsening performance in April, posting rollover rates of 51%, 56%, and 53% respectively.

“Carriers have been watching their rollover rates increase for over a year, and have so far failed to mitigate the situation,” said Josh Brazil, VP of Ocean Markets for project44.

“Shippers need to accept this as the new reality. They are going to have to start making structural adjustments to their supply chains and enhance their visibility if they want to keep shelves stocked and factories running.”
