Seven bidders interested in $146m Thessaloniki port extension

Seven companies and consortia have expressed interest in undertaking the $145.6m extension of Thessaloniki port's sixth pier.

The planned extension will enable Greece’s northern port to accommodate super post-panamax containerships.

The seven to take part in the tendering process come from Greece, France, Belgium, Italy and Portugal - among them leading companies in the field of construction and port projects.

Thessaloniki port covers an area of about 1.55m sq m and has about 3,500 m of piers and some 6,150 m of platforms and is a transit hub serving  It is the largest transit port in the country and serves the needs of approximately 15m inhabitants in the wider region.
