Shanghai adding 6 million tonnes of LNG capacity

Shanghai is going to expand LNG projects at Yangshan port area with a construction scale of 6m tonnes per year.

Approved by Shanghai Development and Reform Commission and Zhejiang Provincial Development and Reform Commission, the LNG project will construct one 150,000 tonnes-class LNG berth which can accommodate LNG vessels having carrying capacity of up to 266,000 cu m of cargo; ten LNG storage tanks above 220,000 cu m and 70 kilometres gas pipeline. 

Among various phases the LNG terminal, pipeline and four LNG storage tanks are scheduled for delivery before 2025, while the remaining projects will commence operation by 2030. 

Upon completion, this new project will optimise LNG supply and storage system in Shanghai and improve overall LNG energy structure in Yangtze river delta region.

Yangshan LNG receiving station is the major LNG supply resource for Shanghai. The first phase project went into operation in 2009 and two more 200,000 cu m storage tanks were delivered in 2020.
