Despite the decline in volumes Shanghai remains the top-ranking container port worldwide.

Among three major port areas of Yangshan, Waigaoqiao and Wusong, Yangshan posted a container throughput of 11.814m teu, accounting for 52.4% of the whole port’s container volume.

Port operation status had been affected by local covid-outbreaks in the first half and external factors including Russia-Ukraine conflicts and overseas port congestion. However, the quick resumption of production at Shanghai port and Yangtze river delta region had provided powerful guarantee for container cargo resources and transportation, said SIPG.

The cargo throughput of Shanghai was 243m tons in the first half, also dropped 9.9% year-on-year.

In H1, SIPG achieved RMB10.8bn ($1.56bn) net profit, an increase of 24% year-on-year, hitting a new high.

Starting from 2010, Shanghai port had retained crown as the world’s busiest container port for 12 consecutive years.
