Shanghai Port International Group (SIPG) and Evergreen have inked joint venture agreement for developing Shanghai empty container centre.

The two parties will jointly develop the empty container centre located at Yangshan, Shanghai, to further improve Shanghai ports service capability.

After the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, containers servicing for international shipping are short in demand. The Northeast Asia empty container centre at Shanghai aims to improve empty containers turn-over efficiency in Shanghai, Yangtze River delta and the areas along the river, as well as the ports in Northeast Asia.

The container yard expansion project supporting the empty container centre is currently under construction, which will increase resources allocation ability of Yangshan upon completion.

Shanghai port launched the Northeast Asia empty container transportation centre at Yangshan in 2021, and had inked jv deal with the container line MSC at the beginning of 2022 for promoting the centres development.
