TOC Blog - January Edition

I am sure that I am not alone in being somewhat relieved in seeing the end of 2020 and if I am not too late, may I take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year.

However, as I know that many of us are now in the latest wave of lockdown which highlights the increased efforts needed to contain and defeat the virus, I wanted to note that everyone at TOC hopes that all their friends and colleagues continue to stay safe during this time.

I have spent a lot of my time this month reading lots of retrospective articles and absorbing how much the world has changed both personally and professionally.  But I want to use this time not to look back but to look forward as to what we hope will be a very different 2021 and outline the exciting plans that TOC has for this year.

Focusing a digital mindset…

As many of you would now have seen, TOC has pushed back the date of its Europe event to 07-09 September. We look forward to welcoming back everyone back to the ‘AGM for Ports & Terminals’ where we can learn, debate and network again. But before that, we now begin the ‘Road to Rotterdam’ which is a monthly rollout of innovative digital content that culminates (and continues) at the live show in September. Over the course of the next few months, we look forward to bringing you an assortment of digital products, including my first-ever industry report ‘The Future is Here – Trends to look for in 2021’ which you can read here.

Focussing our content around ‘Recovery & Refocus’, this year’s TOC Europe will be discussing seven core topics which we believe are pertinent and in need for a collaborative industry discussion. These topics include:

  • The green transition
  • Automation
  • The ‘new normal’ for port operations
  • Market intelligence
  • Portwatch
  • Standards
  • Digital transformation.

A huge part of this road will be the TOC Global Showcase, which will take place between 31 May - 18 June 2021. The TOC Global Showcase will represent a new unique online experience for stakeholders in the port and terminal industry to come together, share experiences and expertise and map out solutions to common current and future challenges.

This 3-week virtual experience is the latest evolution in our 40-year history; placing the spotlight on the container terminal and port at the heart of the maritime supply chain, and building upon the market-leading content from TOC, showcasing the latest innovations being implemented into global port and terminal operational processes.

Taking place in June, this experience will consist of 10+ webinars focusing on the most pertinent issues facing the sector alongside a plethora of other content including podcasts, interviews and equipment demonstrations.

To echo my sentiments at the beginning of this blog, we wish everyone a happy and hopefully much calmer 2021. A year where we look to slowly return to a physical and economical normality which will hopefully mean that we can start to meet again in person. Until then, we look forward to continuing the digital dialogue that we began last year and joining us on the Road to Rotterdam!
