TOC Blog - New Business Challenges, New Measurement Needs

I’m not the biggest fan of Microsoft Teams (and don’t get me started on Google Duo or Zoom), but like many of you I have been forced into the world of virtual meeting apps and have found the whole experience a fascinating one.

As I write my first blog on behalf of TOC, we come off the back of our very first webinar, which has been extremely exciting (and I must say fun!) to be a part of.

These virtual meeting apps have given us a ringside seat to see how the ports and logistics sector has responded to a challenge we’ve never faced before.  In my experience, this sector has always been one of the more resilient ones, and it has been great to see how ports across the world have risen to the challenges of COVID-19.

Even before the pandemic took hold of the world economy, the industry was already undergoing a massive shift towards smart technologies and revamping the in-port experience for the wider container supply chain.  With ever-increasing cargo loads and ship sizes, ports were already under huge pressure to streamline practices that were always on the rise… the arrival of COVID-19 has brought a challenge almost the polar opposite – with loads now on a huge decline, but these investments in automation and digital technologies are still paying for themselves by helping ports minimise operational disruption.

TOC goes Digital…

At TOC we have felt the full impact as well, and have been converting the market-leading editorial from our live events into digital content.

Earlier this week and after much demand from the industry, TOC Digital held its first webinar “Adjusting to the ‘New’ New Normal’: The Impact of COVID-19” which was chaired by our very own Content Director Rachel White and led by Lars Jensen, CEO of SeaIntelligence Consulting and Peter Sand, Chief Shipping Analyst at BIMCO.  The Q&A session I must say could have gone on for significantly longer, and we are working on ways to bring you answers to the questions which due to time constraints – were not answered on the day. You can register and download the full recording here to listen and  learn more about this week’s webinar.

TOC Digital aims to bring together a whole host of content including whitepapers, reports and handy infographics – all put together in close partnership with the industry’s key associations and influencers, allowing us to deliver high-quality content direct to you.  If you represent a container supply chain organisation and are keen for your voice to be heard in all this new digital noise, do get in touch and we’d be delighted to help you reach the individuals that can make a difference to your bottom line.

As always, should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact myself or a member of the TOC team - we are always here to help.

Wishing you the best looking ahead towards a positive 2H!
