Bintulu: Reported congestion at Bintulu Port resulting in long waiting times of over a week to berth have led to complaints by shippers. Recent cases include a vessel arriving at the port on 28 February and waiting till 7 March to berth.

Bintulu Port Sdn Bhd (BPSB) ceo Mior Ahmad Baiti Mior Lub Ahmad was quoted as saying the sheer volume of cargo and number of ships using the port inevitably caused the delay for goods to be unloaded.

Meanwhile there have also been complaints about the slow unloading of goods due to overloading of the port. The situation is projected to worsen as the volume of cargo handled by Bintulu Port is expected to increase with the development of Samalaju Industrial Park and the building industry in Bintulu picking up.
