China’s Xiamen port has received approval from the Ministry of Transport to construct a new automated container berth.

The no.5 container berth, located at Xiang’an port area of Xiamen port, is a 200,000 tonne-class automated container berth, with a designed annual handling capacity of 910,000 teu.

Currently, the automated terminals under construction or already delivered for operation at Xiamen port are upgraded from old ones. The no.5 container berth is a brand new automated terminal project using intelligent operation system, said an official from Xiamen Port Group.

The new berth will improve the handling capacity of Xiamen port especially for the large size container vessels.

Xiang’an port area is one of the nine port areas of Xiamen port, which plans to construct 15 berths.
