Yang Ming to use Pireaus port as regional hub

Taiwan’s Yang Ming Line is to use the port of Pireaus as hub for the Mediterranean and the Black Sea.

This week saw the arrival Yang Ming Lines' chartered-in 14,000teu newbuilding Yang Ming Wish, at the Cosco Pacific terminal. Under an agreement Yang Ming will use the facilities as a transhipment hub for the wider region of the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. The Taiwanese company follows Cosco, MSC, CMA CGM, Maersk Line and Zim using the hub.

Yang Ming's local agent Hellas by Arkas Hellas said there will be four departures and arrivals per week, with cargo then transshipped through smaller vessels to other ports in the region.

In a separate deal, Yang Ming’s smaller vessels will start using the facilities at Thessaloniki, to serve the cargo needs of the Balkan region.
