Yilport Puerto Bolívar starts $176m expansion

Yilport Puerto Bolívar in Ecuador has commenced a $176m expansion with a ceremony attended by Ecuador’s Minister of Transport Marcelo Loor.

During the ceremony Puerto Bolivar management presented the new STS and RTG cranes arrived at the terminal and the driving of the first pile for the future berth six.

Alfredo Jurado, Yilport Latam regional manager of corporate affairs, explained the importance of Yilport’s investments that will increase the competitiveness of the terminal and contribute to the economic development of the region.

The new cranes constitute the first batch of three deliveries in total, scheduled for 2021. The investment is close to $22m and part of the First Phase of the Expansion and Modernisation Project of the Puerto Bolívar Terminal.

The two new STS cranes have a reach of 22 rows designed to service 14,000 teu-ships.

The construction of the new berth six will increase the terminal's capacity by an additional 450 metres of pier and the first section of the pier is estimated to be operational by mid-2022.
