Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry (ZPMC) has inked contract for three gantry cranes with Cosco Shipping Port for Piraeus Container Terminal (PCT) in Piraeus, Greece via online meeting in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Greece.

The batch of the cranes are some of the world’s biggest capable of handling demands 22,000 teu boxships. The cranes will also be equipped with the remote operation control systems.

Cosco Shipping Ports and ZPMC have established a long-term cooperation relationship. PCT started to purchase the products from ZPMC since its establishment, said Zhang Dayu, managing director of Cosco Shipping Ports.

The first crane manufactured by ZPMC was delivered to Piraeus port in 2010, including four gantry cranes. After Cosco Shipping Ports acquired the equity of the port, PCT ordered another 19 sets of cranes from ZPMC. Eight cranes from the recent order had been delivered and commenced operation in 2018.

PCT is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cosco Shipping Ports. It is principally engaged in the development, operation and commercial utilization of the Pier II and Pier III, and including future plans for the expansion of Pier III.
