China’s Beibu Gulf Port in Guangxi province has inked Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Muara port in Brunei for jointly promoting terminal construction and shipping services.

“Signing of the MoU will further development of Belt and Road initiative as well as the western land-sea corridor. We will deepen the partnership with Muara port and upgrade cooperation with ASEAN ports,” said Beibu Gulf Port.

According to the agreement, Beibu Gulf Port will support the construction of Muara port’s expansion project to enlarge its container handling capacity, increasing the current container throughput of 225,000 teu to 500,000 teu, and will actively introduce regular feeder services between Beibu Gulf port and Muara port.

In 2014, the Memorandum of Cooperation on Brunei-Guangxi Economic Corridor Economic and Trade Cooperation was officially signed. Later in 2017, Brunei Muara Port, a joint venture between Beibu Gulf Port Group and Brunei Darussalam Asset Management Company, was established, which has effectively promoted Brunei-Guangxi Economic Corridor’s development.
