Carrix Group names Uffe Ostergaard as CEO

Carrix Uffe Ostergaard, incoming CEO, Carrix
Uffe Ostergaard has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of Carrix Inc, parent company of Tideworks Technology and SSA Marine, effective March 2023.

The current CEO, Knud Stubkjaer, is retiring after more than 45 years in the logistics and transportation industry.

Under Stubkjaer, SSA Marine became the world’s ninth largest box operator with high percentage growth on equity-based throughput in 2021. The group’s port portfolio of over 20 terminals includes facilities in Central and South America, Oceania and Asia.

Carrix, Inc. and its subsidiaries are the largest US-owned and the largest privately held container terminal operator and cargo handling company in the world, handling approximately 35m teus per year across its marine and rail terminals

“We are pleased that Uffe will be joining the company to build on the strong foundation and accelerate our growth in the coming years,” said Sebastien Sherman, Chairman of the Carrix, Inc Group.

“His exceptional ability and expertise in ocean transport, vessel operations, cargo logistics and overall systems make him an excellent addition and complement to our strong leadership team. Carrix has a remarkable growth history, and with recent expansion projects underway, among others in Seattle and Jacksonville in the US, Manzanillo, Mexico and in Canadian locations, Carrix is positioned stronger than ever," Sherman said.

Ostergaard has 30 years of experience in all aspects of international shipping, cargo logistics, and transportation. He spent 20 years working for A.P. Moller-Maersk (APMM), serving in senior leadership roles in Strategy and Marketing. Subsequently, Ostergaard joined United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) in Dubai as Chief Commercial Officer and, more recently, Hapag-Lloyd AG, where he served five years as its president in North America.

“I am truly looking forward to working with the Carrix team,” said Ostergaard. “The leadership team has built an impressive company, which I have known from my Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk days as a highly professional, reliable, and quality-oriented enterprise, and with what I see as a strong foundation for the future.”

“On behalf of the Board, I want to thank Knud for his incredible leadership over the past 11 years during which he and the Executive Team continued to expand Carrix and advance its position as the leading independent marine terminal operator in the Americas; we wish him all the best in his retirement,” said Sherman.

Stubkjaer said: “It has been a true privilege for me to be part of the Carrix enterprise and work alongside this exceptional group of professionals for more than 10 years. My retirement has been planned for a while, and I am so pleased that Uffe will soon be joining the team based in Seattle to continue the journey; I know Uffe will be a great leader and a very valuable part of the Carrix future.”
