Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) announced a 13% increase in port throughput in 2022 to an estimated 237m tonnes.

Mawani said the boost in throughput came from a 3.2% increase in container volumes to 10.3m teu, with imports and exports up 5% to 4.8m teu and a 2.2% increase in transhipment volumes to 5.5m teu.

Cattle transportation was up 9% year-on-year to 3.93m head of cattle, and imports of vehicles rose by 25% to 973,000 units.

Mawani said the results mirrored its ambition to transform the nation’s ports into an operationally efficient and robustly-regulated industry thriving on streamlined processes, high-impact partnerships, world-class infrastructure, global connectivity, digital transformation, and top-tier customer experience while fulfilling the Kingdom’s logistics hub ambitions set by the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS).
