Local news reports citing a TICTS statement said that the works would help the terminal to increase annual throughput to 700,000 teu per year.
“Despite the progress of 2022, this year has not been without its challenges. there has been more than one incident at the terminal where equipment has been taken out of commission under questionable circumstances,” the statement said.
“Determined not to lose momentum, TICTS has been quick to address these issues to ensure equipment is repaired as quickly as possible and that any criminal activity is reported to law enforcement.”
Matthew Clifft, CEO of TICTS, which is managed and operated by Hutchison Ports, said the operator was grateful for the support of local agencies.
“Striving to build on the achievements of 2022, TICTS is keen to work with the Tanzanian government in further developing the port,” he said.
“Berths 8-11 are due for a complete refurbishment and Hutchison Ports has offered its support in overseeing this important project to ensure that the port can maintain its productivity during the redevelopment.”
