New Changes to AWT's Fleet Decision Support System (FleetDSS)

New Changes to AWT's Fleet Decision Support System (FleetDSS)

Monitor, manage and save fuel

Last September, AWT announced the release of FleetDSS. FleetDSS is AWT's fleet management system that gives an operator easy-to-use filters to quickly focus on vessels that need the most attention, evaluate the situation and make fast, well-informed decisions. The system is also designed to make it easy for an operator to communicate with the captain or AWT.

Since its release, AWT has been continuing development of FleetDSS and has listened closely to customers. This month, AWT is excited to announce some new features as well as improvements to some of the existing features.

Speed Confidence: AWT has created a tool to evaluate the speed required to make a specific arrival time. The tool uses the 20 model outputs from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and calculates the required speed based on each forecast, displaying the model outputs as columns on the graph, with the number of columns indicating the confidence level of the overall forecast. These columns are color-coded to represent their distribution compared to the current recommended speed from AWT.

This tool also shows the relative impact on voyage consumption if the required ETA is adjusted by 8, 16 or 24 hours.

Bunker Consumption Analysis Tool: this tool allows an operator to evaluate the change in the consumption curve over time for a specific vessel. By filtering on dates before and after an event such as propeller polishing, the impact on performance can be evaluated. With this tool an operator can also compare the consumption curves of one vessel with another. This is a great way to compare the performance of sister ships as well as other vessels on the same trade run.

What Features Have Been Enhanced in FleetDSS?

Alarm Dashboard: the dashboard is designed to make it easy for the fleet operator to quickly detect which vessels have a problem and the significance of the problem. This helps fleet operators proactively manage and resolve the issues to keep the fleet safe and minimize fuel consumption. The dashboard alarms are color-coded to indicate risk level. The alarms can easily be sorted from highest to lowest risk and the user can quickly access more information about each alarm by simply hovering the cursor over a specific alert symbol. A new port weather alarm has also been added to the weather alerts indicating when a vessel is within 5 days of arrival and strong winds or high waves are forecast on arrival, which could impact the pilot getting onboard or delay the commencement of cargo operations. By using FleetDSS, the operator has easy access to AWT's detail port vicinity forecasts for over 2700 ports.

Pro Forma Consumption Graph: Pro forma graphs allow operators to compare the vessel's expected performance with its actual performance while en route. Operators are alerted when a ship deviates from the pro forma voyage plan, enabling them to quickly spot vessels that are over consuming fuel and proactively address it during the voyage to minimize excessive consumption. With the combination of pro forma graphs and fuel consumption alerts, the operator can easily spot and address this problem, saving many metric tons of fuel.

Safety Features: FleetDSS has many safety alerts, including vessels in the vicinity of a recent pirate attack, vessels entering a war risk area, rogue wave risk areas, iceberg areas, high waves, strong winds, tropical cyclones and more. In addition, FleetDSS enables the operator to quickly and easily send information to a vessel or a group of vessels.
