RS exhibits at Kormarine 2013
Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) will participate in Kormarine 2013 in Busan, Republic of Korea, one of the largest international exhibitions of maritime industry. On 22-25 October the foremost exhibition of the maritime industry in Asia will gather leaders of shipbuilding industry. RS will undertake a scaled-up participation in this event.

The first RS office opened in Korea in 1996 was originally oriented to render its assistance to ships in service in the first place. Since 2005, RS was perpetually involved in various shipbuilding projects at the largest Korean yards where a number of high-technology maritime facilities ranging from shuttle tankers to state-of-the-art drilling platforms are already built with RS participation.

To support shipbuilding projects, an RS Design and Newbuilding Support Centre was opened in Busan in March 2012 the functions of which covered provision of a full package of services in  shipbuilding including plan approval, survey of ships under construction, certification of materials and marine equipment, RS service promotion in the Republic of Korea.

Early in 2013, RS completed the approval in principle of an LNG carrier project which will, as it is expected, serve as the basis for establishing a gas carrier fleet to satisfy the prospective needs of the Gazprom Group.

‘RS pays great attention to the region, which has become particularly evident during the last 3 years. Appreciable funds have been invested to make our representation in Korea more widespread. Among other things, the Centre in Busan was opened and an ambitious programme of training RS experts in gas carrier classification was implemented. All this resulted in RS participation in the construction of four LNG carriers by STX Offshore and Shipbuilding Yard and of two LPG carriers by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard’, Mr Pavel Shikhov, an RS Chief Operating Officer, said. ‘We continue close cooperation with Korean yards and their potential customers primarily from Russia, using, among other factors, the opportunities provided by the Kormarine Exhibition, where a number of negotiations with shipbuilders are planned’, he added.

For a detailed familiarisation with the activities of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping welcome to the Kormarine Exhibition at Busan on 22-25 October 2013. The RS stand will be attended by the experts in gas carriage by sea from the RS Head Office and representatives of the RS Design and Shipbuilding Centre in Korea.
