The NZSF has been an affiliate member of the ICS since 2021 and has participated in sub-committees and been an observer at the ICS board. As a full member the New Zealand association will be able to participate in all committees and the ICS’ board.

“The ICS already enjoys a close relationship with the New Zealand Shipping Federation through its affiliate membership so I am delighted that we will be working even more closely through this move to full membership,” commented Guy Platten, Secretary-General of the ICS.

“We are creating a truly global community that helps us to further understand the challenges facing the shipping industry, from decarbonisation to digitalisation, seafarer welfare and recruitment and more, so that we can work together to find solutions for all.”

The ICS now has member associations from over 40 countries and territories globally.

John Harbord, Executive Director, New Zealand Shipping Federation said: “The International Chamber of Shipping is at the forefront of advocacy on issues impacting our industry. It's important that we are at the table, working on solutions before they hit us in distant New Zealand, and we are delighted to once again be part of the ICS team.”
