Somali pirates in failed attack on Kenya vessel

Somali pirates launched an unsuccessful attack on a Kenyan cargo ship while sailing to the port of Mogadishu on Friday.

The Sierra Leone-flagged Andrea was reported to have been attacked twice on Friday by pirates attempting to hijack the vessel as it sailed to the Somali capital Mogadishu.

“The crew members aboard the vessel are reported to be safe and sound since no one was injured during the gun fight,” Kenya Seafarers Union (KSU) secretary general Andrew Mwangura was quoted as saying by Xinhua.

There were 17 crew onboard the vessel owned and operated by Kenyan shipping company Alpha Logistics.
