A spokesperson for the Maritime & Port Authority (MPA) confirmed to Seatrade Global that efforts were continuing to salvage the barge. Salvage operations have been hampered by heavy sea conditions.

The Singapore-registered barge left Singapore bound for Kuantan, Malaysia on 25 December carrying to bulker loader cranes.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that it had turned back towards Singapore after encountering inclement weather, and subsequently ran aground at Pedra Branca due to the adverse sea conditions,” the MPA said.
