British company Coldharbour will be exhibiting their unique inert-gas ballast water management system, which thanks to its lack of filtration and complete independence of ballast pumps or lines is immune to many of the problems associated with ballast including pump flow rates, pressure losses and power shortages.

Using inert gases, the system, built in Nottinghamshire, in the UK, treats the ballast water in the tank, inducing a state of hypoxia which kills the invasive species.

Last granted type-approval by the UK Marine and Coastguard Agency (MCA) in February, Coldharbour group is expecting its equipment to be granted full type-approval by the United States Coast Guard very soon.
