Airbus Defence & Space launches XChange 3.1 for easier remote access
Airbus Defence and Space has launched an upgraded version of its XChange communications platform at this year’s SMM, which will allow companies to more easily access vessels’ onboard IT systems from onshore.
“Though it’s already possible to access computers and networked equipment on a ship remotely, our system is the first to provide Universal Remote Access, meaning equipment vendors can provide support for their systems through XChange rather than implementing proprietary systems,” explained Airbus Defence and Space head of maritime satcoms, Tore Morten Olsen. “This reduces the number of access points onboard, which in turn improves security and bandwidth usage for remote access applications.”
Further, XChange 3.1 provides a new mechanism allowing the ship’s master to easily manage crew credit, configuring the monthly data allowance for each crew member.
Airbus Defence and Space currently boasts a portfolio of more than 1,200 XChange systems shipped to more than 80 different shipping companies, with 70% of installations used to switch between fleetbroadband and maritime VSAT services aboard ships.
