All 18 crew safe after fire on Japanese-owned tanker off Singapore

All 18 crew of Panama-flagged tanker Hoyu are all safe after a fire broke on the vessel in Singapore waters today.

The 8,925 dwt chemical/products tanker, owned by Hosho Shipping, was around 9.7nm from Pedra Branca at 13-10hrs local time when a fire broke out on the vessel, according to the Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore.

“The Singapore Civil Defence Force, Singapore Police Coast Guard and the Republic of Singapore Navy have deployed vessels to render assistance to the Hoyu crew. All 18 crew members have been safely evacuated, and the fire has been put out,” the MPA said.

The were no reports of injury to the crew or pollution from the vessel.

The MPA said the accident was being investigated.
