China probes alleged corruption of former head of Liaoning maritime agency

China’s Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) has opened an investigation on alleged corrupt practices by Hou Jinghua, former director of Liaoning Maritime Safety Administration.

In a brief statement, CCDI said that Hou is investigated for “serious violation of the law”, which typically means corruption in China.

The retired 63-year-old Hou had served as director of Liaoning Maritime Safety Administration for seven years.

China’s ongoing anti-graft campaign has flushed out several corrupted shipping and maritime bosses, with the most recent case being the trial in December 2014 of Gu Tiquan, former chief executive of Shanghai Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard.
