Ship agents GAC have partnered with Singapore start-up F-Drones for the delivery of supplies to vessels.

The delivery of supplies by drones to ships can both reduce costs and emissions and with the COVID-19 pandemic also lowers social contact.

F-Drones is currently testing its third prototype which is capable of delivering items of up to 5kg over a distance of 50 km.

“Joining forces with F-drones is part of GAC’s drive to embrace technology to develop new ways to meet the demands of the maritime industry we serve,” said Lars Bergström, GAC group vice president, Asia Pacific & Indian Subcontinent. “When fully commercialised, drones can be an attractive alternative to launches and helicopters for delivering supplies to vessels, especially for on-demand deliveries.”

F-Drones will carry out test flights of packages to vessels for GAC.

The Singapore start-up aims to develop drones that can deliver up 100kg at a distance of 100 km offshore.

“We are working towards launching our first commercial drone flight of our proprietary drone which can fly 10 times further later this year,” said Nicolas Ang, co-founder & ceo of F-drones. “The support of GAC and all our partners is vital in helping us make this happen.”
