The Japanese group, led by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and comprised of ImabariShipbuilding, Namura Shipbuilding, Oshima Shipbuilding and Mitsubishi Corporation, signed a share purchase agreement in Tokyo today for a 30% capital stake in the Brazilian company, subject to antitrust approval.

The agreement is aimed at promoting developing the Brazilian yard through the provision of Japanese advanced technology and operating expertise.

Ecovix was established in 2010 to build Petrobras' initial eight floating production storage and offloading (FPSO)hulls in support of Brazil's pre-salt oil exploitation program. A further contract was earned in August 2012 for engineering, procurement and construction services for three new drill ships for SETE Brasil.
