Singapore-listed JES said Chu has “extensive experience in the trading business, and has… built up an extensive network which the company intends to tap on”.

It added that she is “well connected to government officials in the People’s Republic of China, and the company wishes to tap on her extensive experience in dealing with government authorities to advise the company on its relevant dealings.”

The former ceo Jin Xin, currently the executive director of the group, resigned earlier this week due to health issues. He is the father of the ceo Jin Xin.

JES is now appealing against a decision made by Taizhou Intermediate People’s Court on rejecting an application for a voluntary restructuring of its subsidiary Jiangsu Eastern Heavy Industries (JEHI).

The group is also involved in a legal tussle over the termination of a planned forestry investment in Congo.
