Korean Register (KR) chairman and ceo B S Park has passed away following a short illness.

KR said it was “deeply sad” to announce the death of Park, 63. Park was appointed at chairman and ceo of the classification society in December 2014 and KR said that in time he made a “significant impact”.
Paying tribute to Park it said: “In particular he will be remembered both as a moderniser and as a someone who cared deeply for the people he worked with.
“In his relatively short time with KR, Dr Park had travelled extensively and was well liked and respected across the industry.”
Park graduated from Korea Maritime and Ocean University in 1976 and joined Pan Ocean Shipping where he worked in a number of capacities until 2001. In that year he was appointed ceo of Welson Korea Insurance Brokers before becoming coo of Korea P&I Club in 2006.
He leaves behind his wife and two grown up children.
