MACN is planning to collate the data it receives from the industry on corruption hotspots in ports and shipping to decide where to focus Anti-Corruption Collective Action Initiatives in the coming years.

The organisation said that Collective Action Initiatives with governments and industry had proved effective in helping to combat corruption in hotspots such as Nigeria, Egypt, and Ukraine.

MACN is asking its 150 members and wider industry, and other stakeholders to list the top hotspots where their ships and crews face corruption.

“Data around corruption is used to support stakeholders that are prepared to collaborate to bring about the change and achieve tangible reductions in corruption at port level. MACN’s current hot-spot mapping is, therefore, a critical part of MACN’s future Collective Action Strategy,” it said.
