Malaysian authority detains two ships for illegal bunker transfer

The Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has detained two foreign-flagged ships for illegally transferring bunker fuel in Malaysia’s Pengerang waters on Monday, reports said.

Amran Daud, Tanjung Sedili maritime enforcement chief, was reported saying that the two vessels were spotted by an agency boat patrolling the area some 1.8 nautical miles southeast of Teluk Ramunia.

“One of the vessels, registered at Malabo in Equatorial Guinea, together with its six Myanmar nationals and two Indonesian crewmen was transferring 500 metric tonnes of marine fuel oil to a Guadeloupe registered vessel,” he was quoted saying.

He added that the MMEA has detained the vessels, three Indonesians a Myanmar national crewmen to assist with the investigations.
