Marlink launches Telemed service, wins major satcoms contract
Marlink has unveiled both a new telemedicine service, called Xchange Telemed, and the recent win of a major German satcoms contract at SMM.
Designed to improve the health of both crew and passengers at sea, the new telemedecine service uses Marlink’s global multi-band Sealink VSAT services to offer secure real-time video and data links to doctors on shore, while also providing those doctors with full, secure web portal access to patient medical data.
Marlink says that Xchange Telemed meets all ILO/MLC and IMO/STCW labour regulations for health and medical treatment on board, and to ensure continuity includes hardware and software maintenance.
“XChange Telemed is a complete, fully managed telemedicine service,” said Tore Morten Olsen, Marlink president – Maritime. It allows allows companies to support the health of crew and passengers but also to “meet new regulations and improve insurance processes, while reducing the potential for significant unplanned costs that may arise due to medical emergencies at sea.”
Separately, German shipowner Reederei NSB recently chose Marlink VSAT and integrated business solutions to support communication for over 3,000 crew members on its entire fleet of more than 50 vessels, the company announced at SMM.
