Palfinger has become the latest firm to target Brazilian offshore marine business, in a joint venture with Rio de Janeiro crane manufacturer Koch Metalúrgica.

The joint venture, Palfinger Koch Montagens Industrials, is to handle the assembly, testing and commissioning of offshore cranes in Brazil. The new project will be located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, and will prompt investment in local infrastructure in order to facilitate supplies.

The move came about after Palfinger identified the Brazilian offshore market as one of the most promising for offshore cranes and equipment. In February of this year, a contract was awarded to supply cranes for seven drilships being constructed at Jurong Offshore for Sete Brasil.

“Expanding the growth in the Business Unit Offshore Cranes constitutes a further strategic step in opening up one of the most important markets for Palfinger Marine,” the company said.
