Nominees for the Energy Efficiency award, presented in partnership with IMO, include Ampere, a fjord-crossing, battery-powered ro-pax catamaran; Harvest Frost, a 95,000 dwt Mitsubishi Heavy Industries-designed bulker incorporating an MHI Air Lubrication System; Pirgos, a general cargo vessel featuring extremely low main engine power and a fuel requirement as low as seven tons per day – the “most efficient, economic and environmental” project according to Istanbul Technical University; and the New Horizon class PCTC, a car carrier design developed between Höegh Autoliners and Deltamarin featuring an aerodynamically shaped bow section and a 15% higher cargo capacity than conventional designs.

Candidates for the Next Generation Ship Award, presented in conjunction with DNV GL, include the sail-shaped, LNG-powered Vindskip design; 5,800 m3 ice-class LNG bunkering vessel Coralius; DP 116 Short Sea Pioneer, a concept whereupon several daughter cargo vessels dock inside a large LNG-powered mothership; and Ulstein's X-Stern, a double-acting offshore vessel.

Nominees for the Young Entrepreneur Award, presented by YoungShip, include David Kristensson, ceo of Sweden's Northern Offshore Services; founders of Norway's Connect LNG Morten Christophersen, Magnus Eikens, David Knutsen, Stian Magnusson and Miriam Wennberg; Boyan Slat, ceo of the Netherlands' The Ocean Clean-Up; and Thomas Aunvik and Kenneth Thunheim, founders of Envirex (Norway).

“The determination and hard work behind achievements in the maritime industry is not to be taken lightly. It is thus fitting that the new Nor-Shipping 2015 Awards trophy weighs in at a whopping six kilograms,” said Nor-Shipping director Vidar Pederstad.
