Optimarin said that both orders and revenues were up over 50% year-on-year so far in 2018 contracts to inked to supply 50 units so far this year. Last year the company sold 60 units of its Optimarin Ballast Systems (OBS) – its best ever year. New orders this year come from a range of owners including Besiktas Shipping, Eureka Shipping, Solvang, Koyo Kaiun and Ahrenkiel.

“2017 was our best ever year in business, so we honestly didn’t expect to outperform last year’s figures so comprehensively,” stated Optimarin ceo Tore Andersen. “The fact that we’ve done so demonstrates not only the market’s faith in our proven UV technology, compliance and business stability, but also that shipowners and operators are now being galvanized into action by the ratification of IMO’s Ballast Water Management convention and the need to conform.”

Optimarin has now sold close 600 of its OBS systems, and installed its first system some 18 years ago. The company has made significant inroads into the retrofit market with around 140 OBS now installed primarily with global engineering partners Goltens and Zeppelin.
