The vessel, operated by Østensjø Rederi`s subsidiary Edda Accommodation, provides 600-bed accommodation to the oil and gas industry, using its Dynamic Positioning 3 (DP3) specification to work in close proximity to offshore installations.

“The Edda Fides is a unique vessel capable of fulfilling demanding operations in harsh offshore environments,” comments Optimarin ceo Tore Andersen. “Although the first system we installed for the Edda Accommodation team was a newbuild, they were well aware of our retrofit specialism, with over 60 OBS units successfully retrofitted around the world.

“Its modular nature, and the engineering expertise of our worldwide partners Goltens and Zeppelin, makes turnkey installation straightforward and efficient, even on vessels where, due to their operational flexibility, space is of an absolute premium.”

Installation of the new system is due for completion by the end of Q1 2016, with the system now dispatched to Galveston USA, where it is due to take place.

“The fact that OBS is so close to full USCG approval was key, as this gives us the flexibility to offer the vessel to customers in waters where regulatory and environmental demands are at their most stringent,” said John Einar Edvardsen, technical superintendent of Edda Accomodation.
