The US Coast Guard (USCG) evacuated an injured seafarer by helicopter from the containership Yang Ming Unanimity offshore San Francisco on Friday evening.

The 32-year old Taiwanese seafarer was medevaced from the Yang Ming Unanimity around six miles from San Francisco Bay by a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter.

According to the USCG the crew member had fallen and struck his head on the ship’s radar mast creating a laceration on his forehead as the ship was making its way toward its next port call in Japan.

“Once on scene, the Dolphin crew lowered the rescue swimmer to the container ship to assess the man. The helicopter crew then lowered a rescue basket to hoist the crewmember into the helicopter and transported him to Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto,” USCG said.

The seafarer is reported to be in a stable condition.
